Hi I'm Ryan Moody...

I CAN HELP!
ABOUT RYAN MOODY
Born and raised in North Queensland, I’m proud to have been helping people like you catch bucket list fish for over 30 years.
From thousand pound marlin to over 2000 bucket list metre plus barramundi, I’m here to show you how to dream big and take strategic action to become the best angler you can be.
During my fishing career, I held my hard earned secrets VERY close to the chest (typical fisherman ha-ha).
But now as my charter career comes to a close, I’m ready to share my secrets, through my Fish Smarter series of online fishing courses.
Our first course, Barra Basics was very well received with students catching metre plus barra from Gladstone to the Kimberley. It wasn’t long before students starting asking me to teach them about other species.
And I was having so much fun in a mentoring role, that I said to my wife Karen, what the heck. Lets do it!
And so… Fish Smarter, a series of online fishing courses, was born.
One of the things I’m often asked is
“How did you get started in all this?”
Well… They say I was 3 when my Dad dragged me kicking and screaming into the boat for my first Maggie Island fishing trip. They also say he had to drag me out when the trip was complete.
Guess I was hooked from the start.
By 16 I was on the mackerel boats and at 18 was rubbing shoulders with the likes of INXS, the King and Queen of Sweden and boxing legend Barry Michaels chasing giant black marlin off the shelf.
In 1989 aboard “Rodeway” with well known game fishing identities Dave Pemberton and Greg (Muddy) Edwards, we took out the Sheraton International Billfish Tournament, the Lizard Island Black Marlin Classic and placed second in both the Australian International Billfish Tournament and Dunk Island Black Marlin Classic.
I have been lucky enough to see the most amazing things during my career on the water in one of the most beautiful locations in the world, the Great Barrier Reef.
1989 was also the year I started my own fishing charter business
now Ryan Moody Fishing
So far I have had the privilege of assisting clients catch a milestone 2000 barra over one metre and fulfil their dreams of joining the metre barra club. That’s over 2 kilometres of metre plus fish.
It’s been a wild old ride, with green zones wiping out my reef business and two category 5 cyclones wreaking havoc, and at times I was so close to giving it all away… but I can’t.
I love putting people onto fish.
I think I get a little high, it gives me such a thrill.
And I am even more excited about the future. It gives me such pleasure to have witnessed the swing away from catch and kill to catch and release.
It seems hard to believe, but the euphoria of catching such a magnificent Australian sports fish is actually surpassed by the emotional rush of letting it go.
I’ve been fortunate enough to be featured in several successful fishing shows, radio broadcasts and popular fishing magazines. I hold the honour of landing the 2 biggest saltwater barra ever caught on Australian TV (Eddie Riddle’s Fishin 4 Wheels). I write a regular column for Queensland Fishing Monthly (QFM) and are Product Ambassador for Evinrude (BRP) outboards, Garmin Marine Electronics and Jarvis Walker Brands here in Australia.
So it is with much gratitude that I would like to share some of what I have learned along the way.
I hope you enjoy the website we have created for you.
Thank-you for taking the time to visit. I know your time is so valuable.
I hope you’ll be inspired to get out amongst it and live your dreams, as I have.
Yes, this is a business.
Yes, we sell things.
Yes, we’re grateful to earn a living doing so.
But you should know the vast majority of our work is offered to you 100% free of charge.
We do receive in-kind support from various product suppliers, but we are not paid.
Hence, content offered free to you is produced entirely by us.
(For more on what makes us tick, read this)
My commitment is to give you the very best of what I am living and learning.
But please don’t expect perfect polish. We are a small family business and pretty much do everything ourselves – so no fancy editing or creatively brilliant lighting etc.
We prefer to focus on really good content;
“Clean way to throw a cast net” has had over one million views.
And amazing fishing footage. See for yourself.
Now if you’ve read this far… Thank-you
And for sure, we post regular free content over at our Ryan Moody Fishing RMF blog and you can drop in there from time to time (if you remember).
But the best way to stay connected and to get the best of what we offer is to join our Fish Smarter Club.
You’ll hear from me via email every second Thursday with our newest fishing tip (occasionally more often if something is time sensitive or important)
Plus you’ll go in the draw to win a barra charter for two anglers with me here at Hinchinbrook.
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit and hope to take your angling to the next level, either with our free tips and training, or our premium online courses.
